Barry, Folan and McGowan
This Trio based in Sligo on the North West of Ireland represent all that is special about Irish music today. Uilleann pipes and fiddle have long been a fabled combination in the history of Irish music, along with the guitar this blend of intruments and these musicians bring a special blend of Irish music, from the rich tradition, to newly composed pieces from themselves, their contemporaries, and musical heroes.
The origins of the trio can be traced back to Tubercurry and Bunnanaden in the heartland of the famed South Sligo tradition where both Declan Folan and Shane McGowan grew up playing music together from their early teens. Whereas Declan and Leonard Barry first met in London in the early 1990’s playing music together on the traditional music scene.
It has only taken all of 30 years for them to come together to show their music and performing expierence which showcases all that is great about Tradition.
Between them this Trio have shared the stage and recorded with many of World Music greats including Zakeer Hussain, Lunasa, Dervish, Donal Lunny, Luka Bloom. They have performed throughout the world at many of the leading festivals including Roskilde Festival, Celtic Connections, Tonder Folk Festival, Milwaukee Irish Festival, Hong Kong Folk Festival, Port Fairy Folk Festival and countless others.
They have learned their music and been influenced by many of the greats of Irish music including legends Fred Finn, Peter Horan, Tommy Peoples, Matt Molloy, Paddy Keenan, Paddy Cronin, Kevin Burke amongst others.
